MJ began producing in order to create work that mattered to her. After producing a few projects for other companies, she knew she wanted to have a company that embodied the values she believed in most. MJ also wanted to provide working opportunities to fill part of the gap, namely more opportunities for women in the arts.

Producing is a way to create the
kind of work you believe in.

In 2006 MJ founded Seventh Stage Productions a company that would ambitiously encompass all forms of entertainment: Theatre, Film & TV, and Corporate Entertainment.

As Seventh Stage developed, it became clear all these entertainment forms needed separate companies and individuals involved. In 2008, MJ invited Kelly Straughan to become Artistic Director of Seventh Stage Theatre Productions and together they formed a Board of Directors. The company officially became a charitable theatre company that "produces socially and politically conscious theatre by women, and focuses on generating opportunities for women in theatre arts, by producing material that features and employs women both on and off-stage."
